Resistance Events

Encik Latiff who was a District Officer of Pasir Putih got the news that Tok Janggut and his followers were at Kampung Jeram had sent Sarjan Che Wan and several police officers to arrest Tok Janggut on accusation as not pay the tax. Sarjan Che Wan had been stab by Tok Janggut in a struggle meanwhile the others police officers were able to save their selves and make a report to Encik latiff.

Tok Janggut with Engku Besar Jeram, Penghulu Adam and Che Ishak Merbol had launched attack of 3 angles towards Pasir Putih and stay there for three days. They had burn up the government’s office, take over the police station and release the prisoner. After that, they establish the temporary government at Pasir Putih. Engku Besar had been appointing as a King of Jeram meanwhile Tok Janggut as a Prime Minister.

British Army attack Tok Janggut’s bunker at Kampung Pupuh and in this battle, Tok Janggut was lost and killed. Tok Janggut’s body was brought to Kota Bharu in a cart pulled by a cow which took a day. His body was hung for a few days in front of the royal palace in Pasir Bank (Padang Merdeka) before it was finally buried in Pasir Pekan.
